Why We Do What We Do

I recently attended a presentation where three individuals (myself included) were presenting their company to an audience of entrepreneurs. By the end of the hour, I was left with a key question that both presenters failed to answer – why do they do what they do?

Here is an extremely important fact about entrepreneurs that is important to consider while reading this blog: their time is precious. When presenting to them, you need to use your time wisely and ensure that you are “giving” them what they need and not consuming their time with information that they don’t necessarily care to know.

The process isn’t what they are concerned with. What they want to know is why they should choose to do business with YOU. This is even more so relevent in times like today where there is an overwhelming amount of options and choices for just about everything. We sell the same products, offer the same services but we all do so for different reasons.

Here is this concept in practice: “At The Shepherd Group we specialize in the insurance needs of entrepreneurs and small business owners.  As such, we recognize that the need for insurance is not known until you actually need it. Our goal is to provide our clients peace of mind through the products we offer, our customer service and our expertise.”

Notice how there was no explanation of a process, list of services provided or complex jargon. It was simple, easy to understand and served its purposes of letting the audience know why we do what we do.
