April Showers Could Bring More Than May Flowers

Winter was long for all of us, most of us would prefer rain over snow any day, but with rain comes the potential of water damage to your house.The Insurance Bureau of Canada has made a list to help reduce the risk of any potential damage to your home this spring.IBC’s Top tips to reduce the risk of water damage are:1.Keep all of your floor drains clear of obstructions.2.Clear and adjust your eavestroughs and downspouts so that water is directed away from your home.3. Ensure there is proper grading around your home so surface water flows away from          your foundation.4. Install a sump pump or make sure the one you have is working properly.5. Install backflow valves in drains, toilets and other sewer connections.6. Elevate the furnace, hot water heater and electrical panel in the basement if possible or make plans to do so especially if you live in a flood-prone area.Let April showers just be for May flowers and prevent your home and belongings from being damaged.
